The main façade of Casa Penella faces south. In front of the house is a spacious terrace of approximately 145 sqm with beautiful unobstructed views of the surrounding mountains and nature. In the vicinity of the house the river Noguera Ribagorzana flows. This river forms the border between Catalonia and Aragón and connects the lakes Escales in the north and Canelles in the south. So in summer there is plenty of choice for swimming, canoeing or other (water) sports.

Everywhere in the landscape you can see historic vestiges like chapels, Roman bridges, defence towers and monasteries. The rich historical heritage is also reflected in the many authentic villages.

One of the most beautiful hiking trails in Europe is the walk through the gorge of Mont Rebei. The gorge is carved by the river Noguera Ribagorzana and crosses the Montsec mountain range. The gorge can be enjoyed on foot following the ancient mule track carved into the rock. On the other side of the gorge are 2 spectacular wooden stairs that cross the rock vertically. Exploring the gorge by canoe is also an unforgettable experience.
